From Edmonds Community College: Student Spotlight
Flora Thin Thi Dong, Outstanding Student
Flora Thin Thi Dong, from Vietnam, was given one of the Intensive ESL “Outs
tanding Student” Awards for Spring, 2008. This award is for students who have excellent grades and study habits. They also contribute positively in the class. To get this award, all four teachers must vote for the student.
Flora was also an outstanding volunteer. In her Partners in Service Speaking/Listening class, Flora volunteered at a Boys and Girls Club. She helped supervise 5 – 11 year old children in an after-school program. Flora loved the kids and they loved her. According to Flora, “Getting to know American kids and American culture was great!”
The next quarter, Flora wanted to continue volunteering, so she arranged to volunteer at the Edmonds Community College Services for Students with D
isabilites Office. She helped in many ways, as receptionist, math tutor, office assistant, and test monitor.
