How to Return to the United States?

ARE YOU A U.S. PERMANENT RESIDENT? AND HAVE YOU BEEN OUTSIDE THE U.S. FOR OVER A YEAR? HOW TO RETURN TO THE U.S.?

You need to apply for an SB-1 visa - U.S. Returning Resident Visa!

The SB-1 visa is for permanent residents who want to return to the U.S. but have lived outside the country for more than one year, or beyond the validity of their reentry permit due to reasons beyond their control.

To apply for the SB-1 visa, the permanent resident must first schedule an appointment with the U.S. Consulate and prepare the necessary documents to prove that their stay outside the U.S. was due to circumstances beyond their control.

During the interview, the consular officer will review the evidence and assess whether you meet the requirements for the SB-1 visa.

If you do not qualify for the SB-1 returning resident visa, your relatives in the U.S. will need to file a new family-based immigration petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Another option for short-term entry to the U.S. is applying for a tourist visa (B2).
