New Zealand Grants 3-Year Work Visa for International Students
On August 14, the New Zealand Education Agency (ENZ) in Vietnam announced that the New Zealand government has unveiled its International Education Strategy and changes to the post-study work visa policies for international students.
Under the new regulations, international students graduating with a Bachelor’s degree (Level 7) or higher are now eligible for a 3-year work visa, an increase from the previous 1-year term. This change provides greater opportunities for international students, including those from Vietnam, to seek employment in New Zealand after graduation.
Mr. Grant McPherson, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Education Agency (ENZ), stated that this adjustment is a significant incentive for international students. “We hope that international students choose New Zealand because of our advanced education system and exceptional experiences. The pathway from study to residency remains open for those with skills and qualifications that align with New Zealand’s needs,” he said.
This policy change also supports the International Education Strategy for 2018-2030, strengthening New Zealand’s position as a top destination for international students. According to Mr. McPherson, the strategy is built on three core objectives: delivering high-quality education and experiences for international students, ensuring sustainable growth, and fostering global citizenship. The foundation of this strategy lies in a sustainable and highly effective education system that equips students with essential skills to face future challenges.
