On the afternoon of July 18, Mr. Kyle Nunas had a friendly meeting with nearly 20 Vietnamese students from Southern Vietnam who had received the Francophonie Scholarship Program (FSP) and the Canada-ASEAN Education and Exchange Program for Development (SEED) scholarships for 2019.

Mr. Kyle Nunas stated that Vietnam is currently the country with the largest number of international students studying in Canada in Southeast Asia and the fifth-largest in the world, with more than 20,300 students in 2018. Therefore, Vietnamese students always receive special attention from the government in general and education-related agencies and organizations in Canada in particular.

During the meeting, Mr. Nunas introduced Canada, its people, society, and education system, providing a general overview before the new students begin their studies in Canada in the upcoming semester.

He patiently answered each question from the Vietnamese students, covering topics such as the cold weather, cultural shocks upon arriving in Canada, opportunities for graduate studies, and job prospects in the country.

"You will be part of the link between Canada and Vietnam. The opportunity to study and work in Canada is always open to dynamic young people from many countries around the world, including you," said Mr. Nunas.

Regarding the FSP, this scholarship was first awarded by the Canadian government in 1987 to 37 developing countries that are members of the Francophonie (La Francophonie).

From 1987 to 2019, the program has awarded 2,636 scholarships worldwide, with Vietnam ranking seventh in the number of scholarships received.

In the 2019 - 2020 academic year, seven candidates from Vietnam received this scholarship.

Meanwhile, the Canada-ASEAN Education and Exchange Program for Development (SEED) scholarship is awarded annually by the Canadian government from 2018 to 2023, with a total value of 10 million USD.

The scholarship aims to support students and young workers from 10 ASEAN countries to enhance their skills and return to serve their own countries.

The number of SEED scholarships for each country varies annually, but Vietnam has always been the leader with the highest number of awards.

In 2018, out of 76 SEED scholarships, Vietnam led with 22 awards.

Similarly, in 2019, Vietnamese students received the most scholarships, with 52 out of 150 awards, far surpassing Singapore's 38, Thailand's 25, and the Philippines' 11.
